It looks like we'll be having six more weeks of winter this year. Or, in the case of our team in Texas, maybe a bit of winter's chill will finally come our way! What I know for sure, though, is that Groundhog Day means that it's February, and February means that Valentine's Day is approaching, and with Valentine's Day approaching there is a need for presents of pink and purple and red! Luckily, we're Lug. We have lots of pink and purple and red products that make great Valentine's presents for the ones you love. Need examples? No problem!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

But just barely! I know some people have their shopping wrapped up in the warmer months, and, honestly, I do think about gifts for loved ones all year long. But I guess the key word in that sentence is "think." So, here it is, December 2, and I've got basically ALL of my Christmas shopping to do. Luckily, I love shopping and, of course, Lug. So, here are a few ideas I've come up with.

For mom: For my petite mom, I thought the Mambo Sun Tote would be a perfect fit. She'll get the big bag for all her stuff, but it's so lightweight, it won't weight her down.

For dad: This one's easy. He just picked up a new laptop, so it's the Delta Laptop Sleeve for him. Done, and done!

For brother: The Shuttle Bus Weekender is a great choice, since he's going on a skiing trip this winter. He'll be able to pack all his bulky clothes with no trouble.

For sister-in-law: The Two-Step Cosmetic Case. I'm thinking I'll fill it will fun lip glosses and cosmetics for double the fun!

For husband: It's always fun to get a new camera, so I think I'll slip one in the Flash Digital Case for another double gift.

Thanksgiving and Beyond

This year we had a delicious US Thanksgiving full of cakes, casseroles (family recipes, of course), and lots of turkey. Three to be exact: smoked, roasted, and deep fried. Yum. We even discovered a delicious "mock-tail" recipe. So delicious, in fact, that I thought I'd send along the recipe (and a picture of the "ice ring"!).

Ingredients:
2 (2 liter) bottles of ginger ale, chilled
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice, chilled
1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle white grape juice, chilled
Fruit or edible flowers

Directions:
1. Make the decorative ice ring.
a) Fill a ring-shaped cake pan to 1/2 with ginger ale.
b) Freeze until partially frozen. At this stage you can place edible flowers or pieces of fruit around the ring. (Decorate to your heart's content!)
c) Fill the pan with ginger ale and freeze until solid.
d) Place in the punch bowl just before serving.
2. Combine 1 bottle of ginger ale, pineapple juice, and white grape juice, and enjoy!

So, we ate. We drank. And now ... we work out. We're on the home stretch of our fitness challenge, with only a couple of weeks to really kick it into high gear. Our luggers have until December 12 to make it across the Lug Fit Club map. Who will win? Sure, the right answer is that we've all won because we're all more fit than when we started, yada, yada, yada. ... But that competitive spirit is strong on the Lug team, and our Luggers are sure to make it a close race to the tape! We'll keep you posted!

Lug Tackles Turkey Day Grocery Shopping with Style

Today I tackled the grocery store. Normally, it's a lovely experience. I go on Monday morning (or whenever I think the least amount of people will be there), and I take my time, smell the produce, taste the samples. Not today. Today is two days before Thanksgiving. Today, the grocery store was a zoo! Luckily, I came prepared. Of course, I had my list and my plan of attack, but better yet, I had the right bags for the shopping spree. I packed several of my Eco Shoppers—I never leave home without at least one. But I think my smartest move of the day was to grab my Somersault Shoulder Pouch, and here's why.
1. I kept it slung across my body the whole time. This proved key because I could walk away from my cart without having to worry about my purse/wallet. And I'm glad I didn't have to wind my cart through the crazy crowds I was battling.
2. Carrying the lightweight bag the whole time freed up valuable cart space, so I was able to take one of those smaller buggies, thus, making me super agile. I was bobbin' and weavin' like a pro athlete in there!
3. The messenger-style satchel kept my hands free to shop, pack, and load my bags without the hassle of having to grab a purse.
4. Also, I looked cute. A point never to be overlooked.

What's In Your Bag: Cartwheel Edition

We all know the Cartwheel makes an amazing gym bag. I use mine every time I go to the yoga studio (some months that's a lot; others, not so much ... but I digress). But if there's anything you should know about Lug at this point, it's that we LOVE versatility. So, this installment of "What's In Your Bag" is about the Cartwheel as a carry-on. It has become my go-to carry-on for a lot of reasons: it's super lightweight, it's got that front pouch that I can stuff my sweater or travel blanket through, and it's certainly roomy enough to handle everything I need. Plus, it's got that luggage strap that I slip over the handle of my roller bag. See. Lots of reasons. So, without further ado. Here's what's in my bag:

1. Snacks. Girl's gotta eat. I store them in the ventilated compartment on the back.
2. UCB Travel Blanket and Pillow set, slipped through the front patch. I always get cold on flights.
3. Glasses—both the reading and sun variety.
4. Shoes. Why can't I ever fit all my shoes in the suitcase? Luckily there's the drawstring pouch to the rescue.
5. Camera. I store it in it's own small case, which fits nicely in the bag.
6. My Kindle. I've spoken of my adoration for it before.
7. My Planner. If it's not in there, it's not happening.
8. Hairbrush. Girl's gotta look good (especially after taking a nice nap with her UCB during the flight).
9. Keys. They hook onto to the removable Lug key fob, which is attached to the inside of the bag. It's reassuring to always know your keys are safe and sound.
10. Lip gloss. I'm addicted.

I think that's it. Hopefully you can see a little bit of where everything goes from the picture. It looks like a ton of stuff when it's outside of the bag, but once you pack it, there's still a ton of room, which is how I like it. I always leave a little wiggle room to pick up some girlie magazines at the newsstand.

Lug Line Dances ... Yee-haw!

Our Lug Fit Club is still going strong, but sometimes doing the same thing over and over gets a little, well, uninspiring. That's why we mixed it up with some heart-pumpin', rootin' tootin' country-and-western line dancing! And let me tell ya, it's a workout for your brain as well as your body! We had a blast, as you can see from all the pictures. Even our beloved mascot, Brooklyn, got in on the fun.

Last Saturday night, four Luggers had the pleasure of attending the 25th annual Teddy Bear Affair, benefiting the Children's Aid Foundation. It's always a thrill to support a great cause, and it's just icing on the cake when we get to attend a fabulous black-tie affair, complete with celebrities to ogle! Which celebrities, you say? Why, acclaimed chef Jamie Kennedy and Grammy-nominated artist Jarvis Church! Don't believe us? Check out the pictures! (Yes, we were total fans and had to get pictures!) October ALSO Adopt-a-Dog Month!

I didn't even know there was an Adopt-a-Dog month, much less that said month was October. But I LOVE it! Here's a little info about the push to bring awareness to all the amazing shelter and rescue dogs out there that need good forever homes. In light of this great cause, I thought I'd bring your attention to our Somersault Shoulder Pouch—a.k.a. the petite little pouch that's perfect to take on walks with your dog. Time for another installment of "What's in Your Bag?" In the spotlight today, the Somersault Shoulder Pouch! So ....

I was about to head out to run some errands around town, and rather than lugging my big bag along, I thought I'd pack light in my Somersault. Of course, "packing light" still means I need my collection of lip glosses (neatly stored in my Clearview Envelope) and my newest obsession, the Amazon Kindle (there's always a long wait at my post office, so it's best to come prepared). Aside from those essentials, here's what's in my bag:

1. Pens—a no-brainer.
2. My handy business card case.
3. My glasses (stored in their own special soft-lined pocket).
4. A mini tape measure. (Put one in your bag and see how often you'll use it. Seriously. Don't knock it till you try it.)
5. My flash drive. (Don't actually know what that's doing in there.)
6. Car keys.
7. Grocery bag (Lug Eco-Shopper, of course).
8. Tissues. (Always.)
9. Pocket mirror.
10. Hair clips.

That's it and that's all!

Pink: In Honor of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It's October. Summer has come and gone. Early fall's brisk air is finally upon us, and with it, football season. Some on our big Lug team cheer for this team. I, myself, am partial to this one and this one (yes, it's true, even though I live in this state). And if we're talking pros, I go with this one. (Let's not talk about the Boys bad go of it this past Sunday, mkay.) Why all this talk of football during the month of October? Well, have you ever noticed anything special about the pros in October? As I'm sure you're aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And during breast cancer awareness month, the pros wear pink. There's just something about a 300 lb lineman wearing hot pink cleats that makes me smile. Of course, I also love that the pros are able to bring so much attention to this great cause. With the pros in mind, I thought I'd post a gallery of pink Lug pics so that just like the pros, you can wear pink proudly too.

We met Charlie and Wayde, the two aforementioned "crappy golfers," at the Joe Carter Golf Tournament this year, and we LOVE them (even if they are crappy golfers)! Now, we're traveling across North America on a quest to make it across the continent and back. Sure, there will be challenges along the way (at each checkpoint you'll open an envelope that will hold your fate—will it be a physical challenge, like 10 burpees? Will it be a mental challenge, like knowing your geography? Or will you catch a pitfall and be banished until you complete a more difficult challenge?). But there will also be surprise prizes, and, of course, an ultimate winner!

Friday Yoga: Finding Calm in the Crazy

So, last Friday our lovely Lugger Freda, who also happens to be a talented yoga teacher and leader of our Friday yoga class, decided to take the group outside for a little impromptu outdoor yoga.

"It was definitely a different experience from doing it in the gym," she says. "The idea was that it would be a serene outdoor experience; however, tractors and lawnmowers showed up midway to prep the lawn for back-to-school."

You Zen some, you lose some, eh? (bah-dum-dum-ching!)

But when clever Freda was served lemons, she made lemonade. "I used the metaphor of what this looks like for us in our daily lives, where sometimes there's a lot of noise trying to distract us from what's important, but it's in these times that we need to hone in and focus. Then, if we can get through it, the benefit is even greater!"

Brilliant! Brilliant, I say! Well done, Freda, and all you yogis out there. Way to rack up points in the Lug Fit Club!

What's in Your Bag?

It's always fun to take a peek inside someone's bag. Especially a Lug bag! I'm always amazed at what I can fit inside, so with that in mind, I thought I'd start a new blog segment called "What's in Your Bag?" ... Mkay, I'll start. In my Puddle Jumper (which just so happens to be my very first Lug bag [3.5 years and running!] and my very first Lug love), I have ...

1. My computer. I rarely leave home without it.

2. Because of #1, I've also got my computer cord and a random assortment of other computer accessories, like a flash drive, earbuds, usb cord, etc.

3. My notebook. I am a writer, after all.

4. Snacks. Girl's gotta eat.

5. Napkins. Does anyone else stuff the extra napkins you get at restaurants into your bag? Picked that habit up from my great grandmother.

6. Five lip glosses and a ChapStick. I'm addicted.

7. Cell phone. You know, when it's not in my hand.

8. Wallet & keys.

9. Sunscreen and sunglasses. (That sun sure shines bright deep in the heart of Texas.)

10. Book. (Currently David McCullough's The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris)

11. A couple of pencils and pens.

12. A random card from my mom. (Gotta love that.)

13. A watch that no longer works and a necklace that never made it back to the jewelry box.

14. A couple of random hair clips, spare change, and crumpled up receipts/grocery lists/coupons.

Keeping with our summer/fall fitness kick, we brought in two high-energy Zumba teachers to get us moving. And boy did we! We were shimmying, shaking, sweating, and smiling right along to the music. It's always fun to try something new, and as our teachers Roland and Lily Ko say on their Zumba Fitness web site, "That's the secret to making exercise FUN!"

Back to school. Back to school ... I got my lunch my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight. Ooooh, back to school. ... It's that time again. The start of the school year is quickly approaching (if it hasn't already), and that means school supplies! Capital Hoedown Countdown

That's right. We're just one little week away from the Capital Hoedown, and we can hardly contain our excitement! (Eeeeeeee!!!!!!!) So, to just to be sure we're all prepared, I've come up with a little prep schedule to make sure we're all up to speed come the big day.

1. Friday (six days to go): Today you're going to want to buy your cowboy boots or dust off the ones you store on that top shelf in your closet. Put 'em on. Wear them around the house. Get comfortable in them. After all, there's going to be a lot of boot scootin' for the Howdown.

2. Saturday (five days to go): Speaking of boot scootin', you're going to want to polish those dance moves. Try to find a honky tonk and a cowboy and get after it. Or, if you're more comfortable testing out new moves at home, Youtube is the place to go!

3. Sunday (four days to go): After all that dancing, go ahead and take a break. Don't want to burn out. It is a three-day festival, after all.

4. Monday (three days to go): Today you should pick your outfit. That leaves plenty of time to do your laundry if laundry must be done and/or to go shopping, if you need something like chaps or a prize belt buckle. You know, the essentials.

5. Tuesday (two days to go): Since you've chosen your outfit, you'll easily be able to choose your coordinating Lug bag. I suggest something that slings over your shoulder messenger-style. You're going to want both hands free for dancing, clapping, and general good timin'. You're also going to want to pack it with the essentials—a little cash, sun screen, water bottle, and ... MORE COWBELL!

6. Wednesday (ONE day to go!): Today you can brush up on all those song lyrics you've been practicing and just relax. All your preparation has you in great shape to enjoy the festivities.

7. THURSDAY! ... Y'all have fun now, ya hear!

Lug Makes Fitness Fun

Today I wanted to take some time to share a little about how the Lug office is Living Life In Color!

We love our Lug team, and we want our team to be happy and healthy. That's why we're doing our in-office Get Fit Initiative! What's that, you say? It's our friendly little competition that's aimed at getting our team up and active. Here we are, two weeks into the competition, and we've made great strides to stay active. I've already told you about our Friday Yoga Bliss, and now we have Walking Wednesdays, where we take 30 minutes out of the work day to stretch our legs and get outside in the fresh air. Staffers can also do workouts in our office gym or at home or earn points through special events, like our upcoming Zumba class. Each activity is an opportunity to earn points, and the top three scores walk away with a fabulous prize. How cool is that? (I know, right? Pretty cool.)

We're always interested in fun, different ways to stay active. So, tell us, how do you fit fitness in?

Well, I'm a day late and a couple laps around the track short. Did you know that yesterday, June 1, was the third annual National Running Day? If you didn't, you do now! There are a ton of great benefits to running:

"improved cardiovascular and respiratory function, weight loss, reduced cholesterol and increased muscle and bone strength, as well as a healthier mental outlook."

Although I missed the official holiday, I figure it's never too late to get a good run in and reap all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's an easy jog around the neighborhood, a sprint on the track, or a timed treadmill run, it's all good! Just remember to pack you gym bag! (*cough-Cartwheel-cough*)

Memorial Day Plans: Bags, Check!

Heading off to the lake this weekend (woohoo!), and I'm getting all packed up.

First, I've got my sunscreen, my bug spray, my after-sun lotion, my post-bite anti-itch lotion ... lots of different potions (gotta be prepared!). But it's no problem. They all fit nicely in my Clearview Train Case.

Then, I've got my beach towel, my magazine (this trip, it's Bon Appetit with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover ... She's everywhere lately!), and my sunglasses. Again, no problem. My Gondola Slouch Tote saves the day.

And finally, there's everything else—clothes, multiple pairs of flip flops, toothbrush, deck of cards, kitchen sink, etc. For this I pull out my big Shuttle Bus. (But that reminds me: I should go ahead and upgrade to the Shuttle Bus Wheelie. It's niiiice.)

It's Canadian Tulip Festival time! I just heard about it this morning, but I thought, what a great festival to tell all the Lug Lovers about. I mean, as we all know, the motto here at Lug is LIVE LIVE IN COLOR! This year the theme is "Kaleidoscope—a Celebration of Spring Awakening Through Colour, Culture, and Community." As this write-up says, "This rite of spring and explosion of colour sees the city bloom back to life after a long winter's slumber." How lovely does that sound? Lug's Easter Egg-stravaganza!

We hope everyone out there had a very happy Easter! To celebrate the holiday, we had our very own egg hunt. And it was AWESOME!

First thing Monday morning, we rallied all the Luggers for our EGG-STRAVAGANZA! (See top picture. Everyone is rearing to go!)

Then we rang the starting bell, and the gang was off, with baskets in tow, searching high and low throughout the warehouse for all the eggs Ami and Jason had hidden. (See second picture ... nice action shot.)

Some paused on the floor to beam at their findings. (See fourth pic. That's one happy Lugger!)

Others waited till the end to open their eggs. (See fifth pic.)

Prizes were awarded, and everyone had a great time or at least a good laugh!

Spring Break Break-Down: Must-Haves for Your Trip (or My Trip)

Headed out of town for some Spring Break fun? I am, and I've got my Lug gear all picked out.

First, I'm taking my brand new Cartwheel. Sure, it's a great gym bag (I use it for my weekly yoga classes), but I've become seriously attached to this bag and all its smart features. It'll be my carry-on.

Second, I'm taking my Cargo Packing Squares, packing the two smaller ones to save bag space and stay organized and saving the large for dirty clothes.

Third, I'm taking my Undercover Bear. Agent Potts goes with me everywhere. (Unless it's in the laundry, in which case I take my Nap Sac.)

Fourth, fifth, and sixth are my Clearview Envelopes (for lip glosses), Canoe Brush Holder, and Clipper Flat Iron Case. Girl's got to look good on the go, you know?

I think that's it for this trip. I'm pretty Lugged out with six Lug products. What's the most Lug gear you've used on a single journey?

Spring Color Splash

It's the first official week of spring. Do you know the colors of the season? I do! Per the Pantone color trends report, the top 10 fashion colors are Honeysuckle (a toned-down hot pink), Russet (like the potato), Coral Rose (orange but with a bit of pink, like the inside of a papaya), Regatta (bold caribbean blue), Peapod (soft, sea foam green), Blue Curacao (somewhere right in between Regatta and Peapod), Beeswax (straight from the beehive), Lavender (a classic spring shade), Silver Peony (pretty—that's the best word for this soft pink), Silver Cloud (aptly named). I'm loving this season's colors! Blue Curacao is probably my favorite. Or maybe Honeysuckle. Or Silver Cloud. Okay, they're all favorites! Which is exactly why my collection of Lug gear spans the rainbow! What's your favorite color of the season?

Last I checked (via the official site), the 45th Annual NFL Super Bowl was exactly 2 days, 22 hours, 27 minutes, and 43 seconds away, and I can't wait! Sure, there's the football. But there's also the food (I'm toting treats to the party in my handy Pedals Lunch Tote), the commercials, the half-time show (hi, Black Eyed Peas!), and ... drumroll ... the post-game episode of GLEE! Love. Love. Love. There is so much to LOVE about Super Bowl Sunday! And apparently a lot of people feel the same way: I once read that in America the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest "sick day" of the year. Just too much fun for one day to handle.

New Year's Resolution Checkup

It's January 27. Just a couple more days until the end of the first month of the year. Just about the right time for a progress report on those New Year's resolutions, don't you think? So, the big question: How are you doing on your New Year's resolution? ... Me? I'm doing okay. I resolved to actually read all of my book club books. That one is a struggle. I'm 0 for 1. And I picked the book! But, I also resolved to be more organized. Luckily, I don't have to do that one all on my own. I've been using my Tango Travel Wallet as a home organizer. I keep my receipts, credit cards, rewards cards, and coupons in it. I've never been more efficient at the store. So, on that one, I'll give myself an A+. (Alright, fine, I'll give half the credit to the Tango.)

This morning's announcement of the 2011 Oscar nominees got me thinking about the movies, which got me thinking that I definitely need to make more trips to the theater, which made me think, "nah, I really like watching movies at home," which made me think "maybe I can watch some things on my computer," which eventually led me to YouTube and a search for Lug videos (like this awesome one I told you about a couple of posts ago). And look what I found! A Lug station with nine videos. Congrats to Michelle (left), who just had her baby girl, Olivia, and Allison, who is going on maternity leave tomorrow! Our beloved baby mamas are in good shape to welcome their little bundles, with our smart satchels that make for brilliant baby bags. A favorite? So, it's the Tuesday after New Years. Have you made your New Year's resolution yet? If you answered no, well ... you're four days late. But, better later than never! As we told you here, Lug is getting fit this year. Health and wellness are always good goals and some of the most popular New Year's resolutions out there. But if you're looking for some different ideas, we've got a few.

Write a letter every week: Whether it's a little postcard you drop in the mail while you're on a trip, a "thinking of you" card for a friend, or a longer letter to a loved one, cards are always cherished. It only takes a couple of minutes once a week to make someone's day.

Volunteer once a month: Volunteering is one of those things that seems almost selfish because it always makes you feel good after helping someone or supporting a cause. So, why not feel good all year by helping others?

Join a club: There are a ton of clubs out there! Book clubs, investment clubs, cooking clubs, gardening clubs, travel clubs. Find one you're interested in and get out there. You'll meet some great new people and probably learn something along the way.

We'd love to hear about your New Year's resolution and add to our list of ideas. And remember, it's never too late to start a resolution.

Agent Turnberry: Bear About Town and Attendee of Children's Aid Foundation Celebration

Agent Turnberry is a real cool cat (he's got a lot of this, and he's got a lot of that). This past Sunday he stopped by the Children's Aid Foundation's 31st Annual Holiday Season Celebration, which is a fabulously festive party that spreads holiday cheer to hundreds of children in the care of child welfare services in the Toronto area and their families. Of course, he was delighted to attend such a worthwhile event, and we've just gotten word that he was an (almost) perfect gentleman at the affair.

"He was very well behaved and really brought smiles to the faces of all the children at the party! ... We had a hard time keeping him away from the blue raspberry lollipops, but never the less he is welcome back anytime!"

What can we say? He loves those darn blue raspberry lollipops!

Lug Gets Fit for New Years

We're halfway through December (man, time flies!), which means it's about time to start thinking about those New Year's resolutions. And why not get a jump on it? We did! The whole Lug gang (only partially pictured) took a trip to two of our favorite local running shops—Running Free in Markham and Luke's Locker in Dallas—to get foot assessments and stock up on new kicks for the new year. Looks like there are going to be lots of happy feet running around the Lug offices!

Color Theory Thursday: Notable Navy

I don't think anyone would disagree that the holidays can be hectic. So for this Color Theory Thursday, I thought it smart to review a calming hue like navy blue.

With so much blue all around us in the sky and the sea, it's easy to see why blue is a favorite color for so many. Did you know that the color blue actually causes the body to produce chemicals that are calming? (Learned that right here.) This insight kind of makes you want to paint your house blue for the holidays, right? Or maybe just your bedroom—a calming retreat. Blue also symbolizes trust, wisdom, and stability. Go for navy blue if you're looking for an honorable hue.

Holiday Travel Tunes: Updating Your Travel Playlist

Any lengthy trip requires a host of diversions—books, movies, games, and, of course, music. And it's only natural that holiday travel would require holiday tunes. A little mood music, if you will. Here's a little inspiration to update your playlist:

First is Amazon's list of 25 Essential Holiday Albums. Lots of classics on this list, plus a little something from a range of genres—jazz, country/bluegrass, rock, soul.

But as I looked through the Amazon list, I realized that there was no Mariah. *gasp* It's just not Christmas without Mariah Carey. She's put out many since this album, but the original Merry Christmas is hard to beat.

Of course, there's Josh Groban and Michael Buble for great male leads, and Susan Boyle and adorable little Jackie Evancho, two amazing voices to come out of talent competitions.

Then, during my research, I came across this NPR story: The Best, Worst and Weirdest in Holiday CDs. And that is what I will leave you with. Happy listening!
